INDIE SOFTWARE

Built by an Indie Developer.
Not a corporation.

No recurring subscriptions, no tracking pixels, and no venture capital. Just a fast, native macOS app built to solve a real problem.

Why I built MacStats

I built MacStats because I was exhausted by the state of macOS system monitors. Half of them were heavy, bloated Electron apps that drained the very battery they were supposed to be monitoring. The other half were overly complex tools that gave me endless graphs, but zero context.

I found myself constantly staring at mds_stores or WindowServer in Activity Monitor, opening a browser, and Googling "is it safe to force quit this process?"

I wanted a native, lightweight menu bar app that didn't just give me raw data—I wanted an app that gave me answers. So I built it. MacStats started as a personal project and eventually evolved into a complete menu bar monitoring tool focused on clarity, privacy, and understanding.

The MacStats Philosophy

1. 100% Native Swift

MacStats is built specifically for macOS and optimized for Apple Silicon. It has a virtually invisible footprint and won't drain your battery while it runs quietly in the menu bar.

2. Answers, Not Just Data

MacStats is being built around a simple idea: system monitoring tools should explain what is happening, not just display numbers. The AI Explainer (coming soon) is designed to cut out the guesswork of troubleshooting.

3. Total Privacy

Your data never leaves your Mac. Period. Only the generic name of a process (e.g., "kernel_task") is sent to the API when you explicitly ask for an explanation.

Hi, I'm Usman.

I'm a full-time software developer and the creator of several open-source and commercial products. I build native tools from Pakistan.

I built MacStats because I wanted a lightweight macOS monitoring tool that felt native, respected privacy, and actually helped users understand what was happening on their systems.

Every copy of MacStats directly supports independent software development and helps fund future improvements to the app.

Common Questions

Why isn't MacStats on the Mac App Store?

MacStats requires low-level system access to provide accurate monitoring and process insights. Direct distribution allows MacStats to deliver the best experience while remaining fully notarized and approved by Apple outside the App Store sandbox.
