Privacy Policy

1. The short version

Your data stays on your Mac. The only data that leaves your device is the generic name of a process when you explicitly request an AI explanation for it. Your files, command-line arguments, usernames, and personal information are never sent to our servers.

2. The AI Explainer Feature

When you click on a process in MacStats and ask for an explanation, the app sends only the literal process name (e.g., kernel_task, mds_stores, Google Chrome Helper) to the MacStats API.

We do not send file paths (e.g., /Users/name/secret.txt), execution arguments, environment variables, or any other context that could identify you or your work.

3. Analytics and Telemetry

We collect basic, anonymized telemetry to understand how the app is performing. This includes:

  • App launches and crashes
  • macOS version (to ensure compatibility)
  • Device model (e.g., "MacBook Pro M2")

We do not track your IP address (IPs are salted and hashed immediately upon request), nor do we track your location.

4. Payment Information

When you purchase a Pro license, your payment is processed securely by our payment provider (Paddle). MacStats never sees or stores your credit card information. We only store the license key and the email address you used to purchase it.

5. Contact Us
