Open the downloaded file
Find MacStats-1.0.6.pkg in your Downloads folder and open it. MacStats is not yet notarised by Apple, so macOS will refuse the first time and show a warning. That is expected, and approving it takes about fifteen seconds.
Dismiss the warning, then open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom, and click Open Anyway next to the MacStats entry. Confirm, and the installer runs. You do this once.
On macOS 14 Sonoma and earlier you can right-click the file and choose Open instead. Apple removed that shortcut in macOS 15 Sequoia, so on any current Mac the Privacy & Security route above is the one that works.
Run the installer
Follow the prompts. MacStats installs into your Applications folder.
Launch it
Open MacStats from Launchpad or Spotlight. If macOS blocks it, approve it the same way: System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Open Anyway. After that it lives in your menu bar.
